The vice of tolerance
Article Abstract:
Tolerance, which means patient forbearance for something disliked or disapproved, has evolved from a political standpoint to basic convictions such as behaviors. This evolution has resulted from the emergence of democracy which denotes toleration of political, religious and moral beliefs. However, while tolerance is a virtue of liberal democracies it may lead, ironically, to intolerance and the mistrust of truth since it results in an abrading of convictions. Thus, tolerance must be tempered by the positive or benevolent interpretation of convictions.
