UNCTAD: enfant terrible hopes for rebirth
Article Abstract:
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is trying to plan a future in an atmosphere in which some question its right to exist as well as the organization's philosophy that global economic development benefits all nations. Since 1980, the distance between the developed and underdeveloped areas has widened and UNCTAD remains the representative of the philosophy of helping those less fortunate. UNCTAD must also deal with the new phenomena such as the insecurity engendered for the underdeveloped world by the greater instability coming from liberalized markets.
