Living in nonbreeding groups: An alternative strategy for maturing gorillas
Article Abstract:
The one-male reproductive strategy in gorillas implies that maturing males are temporarily excluded from reproduction and live either solitarily or in nonbreeding groups (NBGs) that are devoid of adult females. NBGs constitute temporary and unstable structures that are induced by many migratory events involving blackback males, subadults, and juveniles of both sexes and also include aging and young adult males.
