Roles of Motives and Attributes in Consumer Motion Picture Choice
Article Abstract:
Consumer choice of an intangible service such as a motion picture is analyzed with respect to the motivation of the film-goer and the attributes of a movie. The study concentrates on four types of movies: adventure/thrillers, human/comical dramas, sex movies, and entertainment movies. A statistical study based on questionnaires returned by viewers of four representative movies shown in Finland suggest that general motive and attribute variables are useful in predicting motion picture choice. Audiences are also subdivided into age groups and levels of education. The linear compensatory model used is applicable to all types of movies examined, except the sex movies.
