EnFocus PitStop 1.5
Article Abstract:
EnFocus' $295 PitStop 1.5 is an affordable tool for editing PDF files that can correct most common problems with the Adobe format, although it is not the best such product on the market. PitStop lets users edit colors, text and line art, repair errors in files and adjust object positions as needed. It is much easier to use than higher-end alternatives, operating as a plug-in within Adobe Acrobat Exchange that adds a convenient button to the Exchange toolar. The program has four palettes, of which the most important is Graphics Inspector, a context-sensitive tool that displays precise positioning data and element statistics. PitStop cannot edit hyperlinks or bookmarks, but version 1.5 adds new cut-and-paste features and access to all installed PostScript and TrueType fonts. Users can also create or edit colors and shades and build graphics primitives with the program's drawing tools.

Building fractions
Article Abstract:
Fractions can be created on desktop publishing systems and saved in a separate file or in a memory-resident file. Users who do not wish to purchase a software package, such as Fontographer ($395), have low-cost and no-cost alternatives. Fonts with fractions built-in are available, however they have only the most commonly used fractions. A fraction such as nine-tenths has to be built by the user. A recipe is described that gives details on how to build the numerator, the fraction bar and the denominator.

Diamondsoft font reserve 2.0.2
Article Abstract:
An evaluation is presented of DiamondSoft's Font Reserve 2.0.2 font management software. The software, available for $89.95 downloaded, or $119.95 by mail, is an excellent font-management program that treats font libraries as libraries rather than as inventory. Font Reserve allows users to make temporary additions to the database, that are preserved in case of crashes but otherwise deleted when the machine is shut down, preventing the program from being cluttered with transient fonts.
