Multitasking for the Mac
Article Abstract:
Apple Computer Inc plans the release of a multitasking operating system for the Macintosh by the end of Sep. Multifinder enables the user to keep more than one application program on a screen at a time. It can keep as many as 30 programs open at the same time. Laser printer spooling is offered through the Print Master program. Multifinder will be bundled with the Macintosh computer. Apple also plans the release of an Ethernet card for the Mac II before the end of the year. The Ethertalk Interface Card will allow Mac II's to use Appletalk over Ethernet cables. Apple announced three other products: Hyper Card, a high-level software development toolkit; the Imagewriter LQ, a 216 dpi dot-matrix printer; and a facsimile card for the Mac II.

Article Abstract:
Data Transforms's Printrix 2.4 allows a user to format boilerplate text applications and save the formats as templates. The program, which costs $165, requires 256Kbytes and DOS 2.0 or later. To combine graphics with text formatted with Printrix, a user is limited to graphics created in Fontrix, version 2.8 of which is reviewed here. Fontrix, which costs $155, requires 512Kbytes, DOS 2.0 or later, and a color graphics adapter. Printrix and Fontrix are inexpensive, but they are, nevertheless, not judged to be a bargain because they are slow, incompatible with other software, and limited in their laser printer support.
