From feast to famine
Article Abstract:
Leeds, England, has had few out-of-town office developments although a new large business park is planned at Thorpe Park. Some 300,000 sq ft of grade A office space is vacant in the centre of the city. Local agents predict take up of space will reach around 500,000 sq ft in 1999. Demand for space in 1998 reached 645,640 sq ft. Three new speculative office buildings have been let. Leeds suffers from not having enough large units available for rent, which would encourage the major companies to move to the city although it is popular with call centre operators.

New space for Standard
Article Abstract:
Insurance concern Standard Life is to take a virtual freehold on CALA Morrison's 35 million pounds sterling office development at Exchange Plaza in Edinburgh, Scotland. Edinburgh is a more expensive location than Glasgow, Scotland, but Standard Life believes that Edinburgh offers the advantage of access to high quality staff. The latest purchase means that the company will now occupy more than 1 million sq ft of office space in Edinburgh.
