A little jazz fails to stir Juppe's people
Article Abstract:
French Prime Minister Alain Juppe has proved himself incapable of uniting or inspiring voters in the run-up to the forthcoming parliamentary elections. The election campaign as a whole has failed to bring people together, either on the right or the left, and there is a strong feeling that the election will have been unsuccessful for all parties. Many ordinary people believe that their political views will not be changed by the current campaigning, and there is likely to be a low turnout.

Grassroots view Juppe's resignation with disdain
Article Abstract:
Ordinary French voters do not seem to have been influenced by the decision of Prime Minister Alain Juppe to resign. They are generally very uninterested in recent political developments, and many failed to vote in the first round of the general election. The resignation of Juppe is unlikely to affect the outcome of the second round. Overall, the mood of the electorate is hard to assess. There is a desire for change, but voters are also frightened of change.

Terrorist group points finger at Juppe
Article Abstract:
The French government's insistence that it does not negotiate with terrorists has been called into questions by claims that prime minister Alain Juppe gave permission for secret negotiations with the largest Corsican terrorist group, FLNC. Considerable political damage has been caused by the claims, which were made in a newspaper interview by Francois Santoni, head of Conculta, the political wing of FLNC. A strong denial has been issued by Juppe's office.
