The purchase of condoms is still embarrassing for some people and packaging and marketing techniques could improve this. Condom availability has increased and sales have increased by 50% between 1985 and 1992. Research shows purchases of condoms are the quickest purchases in the UK. The market is conservative but packaging appears staid compared to foreign designs. Packaging should communicate information and the product should be equated with sex as shampoo is equated with hair-washing.

Article Abstract:

Music group Propellerheads places considerable emphasis on using modern technology to remake and remodel the past. The group has been heavily influenced by 1960s soundtracks, and rejects the current obsession in pop music with always being at the cutting edge. It has recently appeared in a video with Shirley Bassey, and seems to be rapidly taking on the trappings of stardom. This development has been greeted with some cynicism by the dance community within which the group originated.

Carlo Ripa di Meana, who challenged Britain's water privatisation plan, leaves his post as European Community Environment Commissioner to become Italy's Environment Minister. Mr Ripa di Meana comes from an aristocratic Ligurian family and became a Communist at the age of 20. In 1956, when he renounced Communism after the Hungarian revolt, he entered politics as a socialist, having previously worked in journalism and publishing.
