A rising star powered by Britain
Article Abstract:
There are currently a number of initiatives underway which are designed to boost the UK multimedia industry. The Arts Technology Centre, for example, runs a year-long multimedia training course for young people living in Islington, London, England. This focuses on content creation, and the participants are encouraged to develop innovative design ideas. Experimental research is also encouraged at Createc, a creative media arts and technologies centre which runs as part of the National Film and Television School.

The Web learns to speak in tongues
Article Abstract:
The World Wide Web has until recently been dominated by the English language and by US culture. However, this situation is changing as multilingual search engines become established and the number of non-English Web sites rises. There are still complaints from the French government about the domination of US culture, but users in Japan seem to be happy to adopt US jargon. Even within the US, efforts are being made to make the Web more diverse.

A virus is not always the product of a sick mind
Article Abstract:
There is not really anything unethical about people who write computer viruses, according to Sarah Gordon, who works at IBM's virus laboratory in New York, NY. There is no typical virus writer, although they generally fall into certain categories and are almost all male. Most virus writers never really consider why they are writing viruses, and being anonymous prompts them to behave in ways they would never contemplate in the ordinary world.
