A tribe goes into battle over the 'evil twins' of Colombia
Article Abstract:
The reclusive U'wa tribe has come into conflict with the Colombian government over the fate of six-month-old twins. The tribe sees twins as signs of evil, and twins are left to die of exposure. However, in this case the parents took the twins to a local clinic. Welfare agencies wish to prevent the twins being returned to the tribe, while the tribe does not want the twins to be adopted by people outside their own culture. This conflict is being seen as a test case for the rights of ethnic groups in Colombia.
