Article Abstract:
The Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT) commissioned a survey of information technology companies with less than 50 employees, which found 'lifestyle' executives who prefer to owe little to the bank and not to use venture capital. These companies, which averaged eight years old, seemed more likely to survive than those which were more thrusting. Of those with high sales per employee, 67% had a cautious long-term strategy. Two in three of those dismissive of venture capital achieved exceptionally high rates.
