Basildon-en-Provence, the grey French town that is sorely tempted by infancy
Article Abstract:
The Front National, an extreme right-wing and xenophobic party, is set to see victory in the forthcoming second round of a re-run mayoral election in Vitrolles, France. The residents of the town, which was built in the 1970s on the outskirts of Marseilles and suffers high levels of poverty and social tension, feel that they have been abandoned by mainstream politicians. They do not particularly like the Front National, but feel that they have no other option. If the Front National is successful, it will be the first time that it has won a clear majority in any election.
