Bauwens had 'nothing to be ashamed of': relationship with Mellor 'misrepresented' in press

Daughter of an important Palestine Liberation Organisation member Mona Bauwens gave evidence in court to support her libel action against the People newspaper. Her father Jaweed al-Ghussein is chairman of the Palestine National Fund and executive committee member. Mrs Bauwens invited the Secretary of State for National Heritage David Mellor and his family to join her on holiday in Marbella during the 1990 Gulf crisis. The People newspaper criticised Mr Mellor's judgment.

South African journalist Jani Allan lost her libel case about her relationship with the charismatic leader of the Afrikaaner Resistance Movement (AWB) Eugene Terre-Blanche. She lost her column with the liberal newspaper 'The Sunday Times' in Johannesburg, where she was voted 'the most admired person in South Africa.' The AWB aim is a white Boer nation. Mr Terre-Blanche denounces Jewish capitalists in his speeches. The case has affected his credibility.

Britain set to hold first war crime trial
Article Abstract:
British police are making preparations for the first war crimes trial to be held in the UK, which is planned to start at the Old Bailey in early 1996. Prosecution witnesses living abroad are being interviewed about the activities of a Pole in his 80s who came to the UK after the war and is now a British citizen. He is accused of being involved in mass murders committed more than 50 years ago in eastern Europe.
