US rejects deal on Kandahar

Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar has agreed to surrender Kandahar, Afghanistan, with weapons being handed over to two tribal leaders. This has been rejected by the US, which does not wish to contemplate any form of amnesty for Omar.

Flying gunships bombard Taliban heartland
Article Abstract:
Special forces AC-130H Spectre gunships have been used by the US to target Kandahar, Afghanistan, the stronghold of the Taliban. The attack also included 50 Navy strike jets and 10 heavy bombers.
