Costly car chase for my stolen number plate
Article Abstract:
The case of Jason Rowe, advertising executive, who transferred a car number plate worth 17,000 pounds sterling to his company car which was subsequently stolen, indicates that those considering following his example should obtain professional advice, and take out cover against theft. Rowe spent a lot of money trying to recover the number plate which was discovered after exchanging hands several times. The vehicle, which Rowe had never owned, was the subject of an insurance claim, and entitlement to the number plate was transferred when the insurance company became the owner of the vehicle.

The high costs of doing something for nothing
Article Abstract:
Independent professionals used by the legal service are having payment of their bills delayed in Legal Aid cases. Professionals such as forensic scientists are owed large sums of money by solicitors using them, as the court costs over 4,000 pounds sterling are being delayed by the taxation system at the Central Taxation Unit. The Lord Chancellors Department are looking into allowing interim payments to cover some of the costs before the final settlement of solicitors bills.

'What do I have to do, come back in a bodybag?'(stalking)
Article Abstract:
The UK government plans to legislate against stalking, but it is not an easy task given various kinds of stalking, and lessons can be learned from experiences in the US. According to Lieutenant John Lane, head of the Los Angeles Police Department unit which specialises in stalking, stalkers are persistent and reoffend even after a period in jail. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) will show a programme on BBC 1 on July 17 1996 which looks at the problem.
