Dull? Suburban? Not the brave new Croydon
Article Abstract:
Croydon, the 10th largest town in the UK, has excellent transport facilities and a growing number of businesses. Its good quality public services will be augmented by a new arts and library complex in 1993/4. The arts and library building was commissioned from architects Tibbalds Colbourne Karski Williams Munro in 1988 at a cost of 30 million pounds sterling. It blends well with the Victorian architecture of the town hall and has innovative design inside.

What's so funny about Croydon?
Article Abstract:
The town of Croydon, England, has traditionally been seen as extremely unattractive, especially since many concrete office blocks and large roads were built there in the 1960s. However, efforts have been made over recent years to give it a more positive image. There are plans to construct an 18-mile tram network, thus reducing traffic problems, and some 6.8 million pounds sterling is to be invested in a 'Skyline Project.'

Come to continental Croydon
Article Abstract:
The Surrey town of Croydon has gained a reputation for being very unattractive, having become a concrete jungle. However, it has been very economically successful, and is now the 10th largest town in the UK. Councillors are very keen for the borough to become a city, and are investing large sums in public buildings and civic ventures.
