Elvis's army is here to stay
Article Abstract:
Elvis Costello is leaving his record label, and has released a compilation album of 18 tracks that he has chosen from his nine years with Warner Brothers. The album includes 'Tramp the Dirt Down', which expresses his anger about the state of the United Kingdom in the 1980s. He argues that this type of song is not political, as is supposed, but is personal. Costello has change his musical direction a number of times, and 'Brutal Youth' is the only recent album to achieve an impact, because it resembled his previous work.

Directed by destiny
Article Abstract:
Filmmaker Gillian Armstrong feels that every film she makes is a gamble. She believes that she has to trust her instincts and to just take on the projects she finds most attractive. She has been lucky with her choice of actresses, and has shown great ability to draw out their best. She is interested in why people do the things they do, and believes that filmmakers always see something of themselves in their characters. She is greatly attracted to flawed characters.

An end to Mob rule
Article Abstract:
Films showing the Mafia which were made in the 1970s or are set in that era show the Mafia as confident and powerful. This stopped being the case in the 1980s, when the Mafia's power began to wane. Later films show the Mafia as still being influential in US life, but not inspiring as much fear as it did previously. The decline of the Mafia is seen particularly in the work of Martin Scorsese, with 'GoodFellas' and 'Casino' showing the Mafia as history.
