When pain is hard to swallow
Article Abstract:
There has been a significant decline in tonsillectomy rates in the UK since the late 1960s. It is now common for surgeons only to perform a tonsillectomy if a child has frequent attacks of severe tonsillitis, and in most cases children are left to simply grow out of problems with tonsillitis. Some observers believe that the trend away from tonsillectomy may now have gone too far. They point out that some problems with tonsillitis can continue into adult life, and that having a tonsillectomy as an adult is much worse than having the same operation as a child.

Accentuate the positive
Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly widely accepted that a positive mental attitude can play an important role in improving the quality of life of cancer patients. Indeed, it may even go as far as to prolong the life of cancer sufferers. Those who are able to express emotions such as fear, anger and depression, rather than simply accepting their fate, are likely to survive longer. Many cancer specialists are now looking at the psychological elements of the disease.
