Freedom of information proposals gets high praise
Article Abstract:
Widespread approval has been expressed for the UK government's White Paper on freedom of information. This document gives individuals a statutory right of access to information and records, and will make government much more open and accountable, according to David Clark, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and the Cabinet minister who was responsible for it. The Campaign for Freedom of Information has welcomed the White Paper, but also proposes an Information Commissioner to monitor the open government process.

Doubts dominate biotech babies
Article Abstract:
Shares in British Biotech, the UK's top biotechnology company, rose dramatically in 1995, but rose only briefly when the company recently announced details about a potential anti-cancer drug. Biotechnology shares have risen strongly over the last six months, but financial experts are generally rather sceptical about these companies. There is particular caution about the very large valuations being made of biotechnology companies.
