Georg Tintner
Article Abstract:
Conductor Georg Tintner joined the Vienna Boys' Choir at the age of nine. He entered the Vienna State Academy in 1930 at the age of 13, studying composition with Joseph Marx. He also took conducting lessons from Felix Weingartner between 1936 and 1937. He was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Volksoper in Vienna, Austria, at the age of 19. He fled to New Zealand when the Nazis entered Austria. He gave piano lessons before founding the Auckland String Players. He was appointed resident conductor of the Australian National Opera in 1954, and in 1971 became Music Director of the West Australian Opera Company.

Ilya Musin
Article Abstract:
Conductor and teacher Ilya Musin learnt to play the piano from an early age. He was accepted into the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire in Leningrad, Russia, in 1919 at the age of 16, and began attending many concerts. He started to teach in 1929, and graduated in 1930. He took up a post at the Conservatoire, and remained there all his life. He began to establish himself as a conductor, and became head of the Conservatoire during the second world war. He gave his first master-class abroad in 1992.

Jens Nygaard
Article Abstract:
Conductor Jens Nygaard was born in Stephens, AR, in 1931. He showed musical talent from a very early age, and majored in the clarinet at the Louisiana State University. He later studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York, NY, and ran the music programme at International House, Columbia University.
