Getting warmer, but still a long way from our goal
Article Abstract:
It is now becoming more widely recognized that it is necessary to take action to prevent global warming. However, the climate change conference in Kyoto, Japan, has served to highlight the serious difficulties associated with actually ensuring that action is taken. Representatives of large businesses connected with the environment and some politicians still feel that reducing emissions of greenhouse gases would have a negative impact on economic development, and are therefore opposed to any international agreement being made. It is possible that they will eventually come to regret this stance.

The global thermostat goes up
Article Abstract:
Global warming will have a significant impact on wildlife across the world. In the UK, some species will be pushed out of their traditional habitats, being forced to move elsewhere in order to survive. It is likely that some animals and plants traditionally associated with warmer climates will begin to become established in the UK. Global warming will cause sea levels to rise, which will in turn lead to the gradual disappearance of low-lying freshwater wetlands. This will have a serious impact on the wildfowl and wading birds which rely on these areas.

Snow conceals hard choices
Article Abstract:
Global warming is a very important issue, and it is vital that action is taken to reduce the threat posed by global warming. However, cold spells such as the one being experienced at present across much of Europe make it very hard for ordinary people to believe that global warming is really taking place. It is important to increase awareness that the climate will retain its natural variability, despite a gradual warming trend across the world.
