Hammond Innes
Article Abstract:
Writer Hammond Innes had a range of employment after leaving school at the age of 18. He had unfortunate early experiences with publishers, and in later life disowned his first novels. He moved to Collins in 1939, and proved to be a compulsive writer. He also became extremely interested in travel. He established a long and profitable association with US travel magazine Holiday in the early 1950s. In later life, his novels became increasingly propagandist, at times almost expository, but he never lost his narrational drive.

W.O.G. Lofts
Article Abstract:
Writer and researcher William Loft had a great ability to unearth obscure information. He spent a lot of time in the Reading Room of the British Museum, and also visited the Public Records Office, Somerset House, Companies House and the British Library Newspaper Archive regularly. He worked at the Zenith Carburettor Co. from 1940 to 1968, but also undertook a lot of extremely confidential work for IPC Magazines for most of the 1960s through to the 1980s.

Richard Mason
Article Abstract:
Writer Richard Mason published his first book, a thriller entitled 'The Body Fell on Berlin,' in 1943. However, he became most well known for the 1947 novel 'The Wind Cannot Read' and the 1957 novel 'The World of Suzie Wong,' both of which were romances. He wrote a number of film scripts during the 1950s, and his last novel was the 1962 spy story 'The Fever Tree.' After this, he was happy to live off the royalties from 'The World of Suzie Wong.'
