Programme controller of BBC1 and BBC2 Alan Yentob, 46, is the son of a Sephardic Jew from Iraq who opened a textile factory in Manchester, England. The family lived in an apartment in Park Lane, London when he was 12 but he went to King's School, Ely with his twin brother Robert. He went to Grenoble University for a year and read law at Leeds. He became one of five general trainees at the BBC. He enjoys inspiring his staff into innovative programmes, and boldly changing schedules.

There was high-profile security for a reception held at the American Embassy in London, England, at which Hillary Clinton met around 200 people. The guests talked among themselves for around 45 minutes before Hillary Clinton arrived. She was introduced by Philip Lader, the new American Ambassador, and then spoke to the guests as a group. There was a large queue of people waiting to be introduced to her, and it was only possible for each one to exchange a few words with her.
