In Manila these days, even the pimps are under age
Article Abstract:
The BBC's drama 'Saigon Baby,' which is currently being filmed in the Philippines, deals with the issues of child prostitution and baby smuggling. The Philippines is now thought to have around 60,000 child prostitutes, and this is becoming a serious problem right across Asia. Most of the foreign customers are from Australia and Japan, but tourists from across the world have been attracted into child prostitution in the Philippines. The drama particularly looks at the role of middlemen, who take unwanted babies from child prostitutes and sell them to childless couples abroad.

The end of a very British colonial affair
Article Abstract:
The British colonial legacy in Hong Kong seems to have been characterized by irony. It was possible to make Hong Kong into an oasis of freedom which attracted large numbers of Chinese people, and Hong Kong has now become the seventh largest trading country in the world. Its gross domestic product per head is greater than that of the UK itself, and its economy has enjoyed a 50-fold expansion since the mid-1970s. Life there is ruled by business, reflecting the fact that Hong Kong was originally created as a place of business.

From famine to smiling faces: the twisted reality the party minders make sure you see
Article Abstract:
Journalists seeking to investigate conditions in North Korea face obstacles from minders, though overt expulsion is not carried out. Journalists may be told they cannot visit a location for security reasons. A journalist seeking to visit an orphanage was told that there are not many orphans in North Korea. The government seeks to promote an image of prosperity by investing in schemes designed to make the country appear well-off, such as major highways which do not carry traffic, partly because of a fuel shortage.
