Is this the One to wake our souls?
Article Abstract:
A radio show which contains elements which are simply fun is not necessarily a bad one, according to Radio 1 presenter Mark Radcliffe. He actually has a strong interest in literature, especially poetry, but does not feel that all radio programmes should necessarily be highbrow. He and co-presenter Marc Riley just enjoy allowing their show to take its own direction, and do not believe that there is necessarily any intellectual low ground inherent in their approach.

Faithful and true, the flock of Father Basil are praying for him
Article Abstract:
Many people attended a Requiem Mass in Westminster Cathedral, London, England, for Cardinal Basil Hume. The solemn-sung requiem, which attracted Catholics from all different backgrounds, was concelebrated by 40 priests and diocesan bishops. Those who attended emphasized that they regarded Cardinal Hume as their friend. The sermon, delivered by Monsignor George Stack, contained lengthy quotations from Cardinal Hume's own meditations on death.

The pragmatic entertainer who said the unsayable
Article Abstract:
Novelist Sir Kingsley Amis, who died recently, gained a reputation for saying things that others were reluctant to say. He had a very unsentimental, pragmatic approach, and scorned many elements of modern society. His novels clearly express disgust for particular targets, such as other countries and people in authority, but are also extremely entertaining.
