Jim Sillars, tartan champion
Article Abstract:
Jim Sillars is a hero of the Scottish working classes who has left the Labour Party and joined the Scottish Nationalist Party (SNP). Coming from a solid labour family, Sillars joined the Labour Party in the 1960s and rising in the ranks won the South Ayreshire seat in 1969. The White Paper on Scottish devolution in 1975 disappointed Sillars so much that he resigned from the party and created the Scottish Labour Party. This collapsed and in 1980 he joined the SNP through alliance with its left wing, and won the Govan seat in 1988.

Article Abstract:
The west coast of Scotland has some of the most attractive collections of rhododendrons in the UK, but gardeners across Scotland are attracted to rhododendrons. They grow particularly well in Scotland's cool summers, and this has allowed a considerable number of highly respected rhododendron gardens to be established there. It is very easy to become almost addicted to rhododendrons, and many gardeners enjoy collecting different varieties.

Rough guide to Blair's tartan trouble
Article Abstract:
The UK Labour party has been successful in gaining the political middle ground in England, but this has not been the case in Scotland, where there are four main political parties. It is facing particular competition from the Scottish National Party, which is attracting left-wing voters. Labour is also in a difficult position because it has represented the political establishment in Scotland throughout the years of Conservative government.
