Article Abstract:
Scriptwriter Lew Schwarz began his working life as a splicer and riveter in shipyards. He served in the RAF as a Flight Engineer towards the end of the second world war. He began working as a taxi-driver in London, England, in the mid-1950s, and through this work came into contact with comedian Spike Milligan. In 1955, he wrote the television series 'Great Scott - It's Maynard' with Eric Merriman. His first series on his own was 'Scott Free.' He became a semi-regular writer on 'The Army Game' in 1957, and later wrote for feature films.

Peter Brough
Article Abstract:
Ventriloquist Peter Brough worked for a large store in Bayswater, England, after leaving school at 16. However, he practised ventriloquism skills very hard, and at Christmas 1938 gained his first full week of variety work. He formed a textile agency with his father in 1939, and in 1940 made his first film, 'Cavalcade of Variety.' He served in the Army during the second world war, but later joined Ensa, which was responsible for entertaining troops. After the second world war, he created a very successful radio series.

Syd Lawrence
Article Abstract:
Cornet player and band leader Sydney Lawrence learnt to play the cornet as a child in a local brass band. He played in a semi-professional dance band in the evenings after he left school at the age of 14. He joined an Ensa troupe at the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, but in 1941 was called into the Royal Air Force. He was demobbed in 1946, and joined a Merseyside dance band led by Al Powell. He played the trumpet in Teddy Foster's Band in 1948, and in 1949 joined Cyril Stapleton's Orchestra.
