Maurice Schumann
Article Abstract:
Writer and politician Maurice Schumann was an active member of Jeune Republique, a small Christian Democratic group, before the second world war. He wrote many articles for the Christian Democrat newspaper L'Aube, and was its political editor between 1944 and 1951. He had been a journalist in London, England, between 1933 and 1935, and this led to his involvement with radio broadcasts to occupied France during the second world war. He played a key role in the 1946 campaign to establish a two-chamber parliament.

Keith Cox
Article Abstract:
Geologist Keith Cox served in the Royal Engineers during the second world war, and in 1952 went up to Queen's College, Oxford, England. He gained a First in Geology in 1956, and between 1956 and 1960 worked in the Research Institute of African Geology in Leeds, England. He became University Lecturer in the Grant Institute of Geology at Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1962, moving to Oxford University in 1972. He gained Fellowship of the Royal Society in 1988.

Georges Marchais
Article Abstract:
Politician Georges Marchais began his working life in the aeronautics industry. He joined the Communist party in 1947, and in 1960 joined the Central Committee as an 'alternate.' He was made joint secretary-general in 1970, and in 1972 became full secretary-general. He became National Assembly member for the seat of Val-de-Marne, France, in 1973. He was a member of the European Parliament between 1979 and 1989.
