Lord Orr-Ewing
Article Abstract:
Lord Ian Orr-Ewing was a British Cabinet minister who was Civil Lord of the Admiralty for four years, and he also campaigned for an end to the TV monopoly of the British Broadcasting Corp (BBC). He was part of a group deciding on Conservative Party broadcasting policy in 1951. He worked at the BBC from 1938 until war broke out in 1939 and he enlisted. He became a life peer in 1971 and was a vigorous participant in the Houseof Lords where he was deputy Chairman of the Association of Conservative Peers between 1980 and 1986.
