Article Abstract:
Feminist performance artists such as Annie Sprinkle, Karen Finley and Holly Hughes have attracted considerable controversy because of the very direct way in which they present their bodies on stage. They encourage the audience to touch intimate parts of their bodies and discuss personal matters in great detail. Some observers have dismissed these performers as obscene and pornographic, but the artists themselves are keen to emphasise that they are concerned with art, and do not aim simply to shock.

The Russians don't like it. Not one little bit. So what have the Germans done to upset them?
Article Abstract:
The Volksbuhne has regained its position as one of the most dynamic and progressive theatre companies in Europe since the collapse of the Berlin Wall. Its most recent production, 'Murx,' attracted considerable controversy when it was performed in St Petersburg, with many members of the audience walking out before the end. The play deals with the desperate tedium of life under and after socialism, and appeared to be particularly critical of the stagnant nature of life in the former USSR.

It's naked. Very naked indeed
Article Abstract:
Performance art group the People Show, founded in 1966 by Jeff Nutall, has gained a reputation for taking a very extreme approach, often involving members of the audience in bizarre antics. It uses art forms taken from other areas, such as music, movement and the circus, and its members build very imaginative sets. There have been reports of conflicts between them, and even fighting on stage, although audiences have assumed that this is simply part of the show.
