Music for pleasure
Article Abstract:
Being a composer who is still relatively unknown is actually not a problem at all, according to Orlando Gough. He is happy with this situation, as it means that he is able to compose music which tells a story. He trained as a mathematician, but does not believe that there is a necessarily a close link between the abstract formulae of pure maths and the compositional systems of musical minimalism, with which he is most closely associated. Most recently, he has released 'Message from the Border,' a collection of pieces written originally for dance groups.

Cool, calm and collected
Article Abstract:
Composer John Adams feels that 'The John Adams Earbox,' the collection of 10 CDs of his work released by Nonesuch, shows the very wide range of musical forms to which he has been attracted. He emphasizes that he is attracted to composers who use music to indicate geographic space and landscape. He acknowledges that he has been influenced by the Californian landscape. His best ideas arise when he is driving to his farm three hours north of San Francisco, CA.
