OK, so a red ribbon is for Aids awareness - but what about a tartan one, or a green one?
Article Abstract:
It has become extremely common in the UK for people to wear coloured ribbons to show their support for a wide range of causes. In many cases, others can be confused about the specific cause concerned. However, most people know that a red ribbon indicates Aids awareness, and around 6 million red ribbons are distributed each year. This compares with only around 500,000 for all the other coloured ribbons put together. Organizers of Aids awareness campaigns believe that they will be able to prevent the concept of the red ribbon becoming devalued by the launch of ribbons of other colours.

Holland's most wanted ... and unwanted ...
Article Abstract:
Large outdoor scenes are the most popular subject for a painting, according to research undertaken by Russian artists Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid. They have canvassed ordinary people's views about art in 14 different countries, and recently held a show at the Kunsthal in Rotterdam, Netherlands. In the Netherlands, there was an usually high proportion of people who favoured abstract art, while most people shunned realism, especially indoor scenes.

Unwanted: 25 million tyres
Article Abstract:
Companies which dispose of scrap tyres legally tend to charge high prices for their services, and this has led to a flourishing business in illegal disposal. Some operators will now take unwanted tyres away for very low rates, and will then dump them illegally somewhere, often on old airfields or in empty warehouses. They can earn large sums of money from these services, sometimes as much as they would earn from running drugs.
