Professor Alan Usher
Article Abstract:
Top forensic pathologist Alan Usher was highly professional and courteous, remaining composed and fair-minded when his testimony was contested in court. He used humour rather than aggression to put forward his points, with his ultimate aim being to establish the truth. Usher campaigned for 15 years for improvements to Sheffield University's Public Mortuary where he worked, with the resultant Sheffield Medico-Legal Centre highly acclaimed by medical professionals and architects worldwide. He also sought to make the mortuary more comforting for bereaved relatives. Usher died on July 31 1998 aged 68.

Fiddling while Somalia starves: the UN Secretary-General complains that the West has neglected Africa
Article Abstract:
The United Nations (UN) must be accountable and officials must be liable for prosecution when responsible for thousands of deaths. Victims of incompetence must have legal recourse. The UN ignored the crisis in Somalia for a year and in Aug 1992 is still assessing the situation as if the problems are in the future. The UN has limited accountability and officials providing inaccurate reports and responsible for delays are not reprimanded. The southern Sudanese famine in 1988 and the famine in Ethiopia in 1984 were inadequately aided through mismanagement.
