Professor Martin Hollis
Article Abstract:
Philosopher Martin Hollis was a Classics scholar at New College, Oxford, England, where he studied PPE. He gained a Harkness Fellowship to study at Berkeley and Harvard, and was to be greatly influenced by the sociology he encountered in California. He worked at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office between 1963 and 1966, and then obtained an appointment in philosophy at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England. He became professor of philosophy there in 1982.

W.V. Quine
Article Abstract:
Philosopher Willard Quine was born in Akron, OH, in 1908. He completed his PhD at Harvard in two years, and in 1932 gained a travelling scholarship to Europe. He returned to the philosophy department at Harvard after serving as a naval officer during the second world war.

Philosopher David Lewis was born in Oberlin, OH, in 1941. He studied at Swarthmore College and Harvard University, and from 1970 until his death taught at Princeton University.
