Prospects for consumer spending to 2005
Article Abstract:
Prospects for UK consumer spending from 1999 to 2002 are discussed while longer-term prospects that take growth patterns into consideration are presented until 2005. The prediction is based on the presumption that consumer spending growth beyond 2000 will not surpass that of the post-war period. There is a general tendency for consumer spending to slow down as a result of intense international competition, technological change, changing tastes and demographic differences.
