WHSmith prepares to fight superstores
Article Abstract:
WHSmith is looking at using a new superstore format to fight against competition from US companies in the UK. It is considering 20 to 25 stores offering books, stationery, newspapers and magazines. The company is considering converting its largest stores of 20,000 sq ft to superstore format and opening some new 30,000-35,000 sq ft high street stores. WHSmith is examining whether this move to superstore retailing would be profitable. It must not alienate any of its customers, some of which may prefer a limited product range.

And for our next cunning plan
Article Abstract:
A third formal attempt is to be made to rejuvenate the South Bank Centre in London, England, the largest arts complex in the UK. A competition brief has been issued for a new master planner, and it is possible that the Hayward Gallery, the Purcell Room and the Queen Elizabeth Hall will be demolished and replaced. The South Bank Centre believes that this approach does not go as far as being a grand project, but that it is sufficiently bold. Furthermore, it should be affordable.
