Retired soldiers grow militant over pension levels
Article Abstract:
The UK government may face legal action from former members of the Gurkhas over its policy on pension payments. At present, Gurkhas receive a pension of only 25 pounds sterling a month on retirement after serving at least 15 years. This is much lower than the pension paid to British soldiers. This anomaly is the result of the Tripartite Agreement of 1947, which sets pension rates for Gurkhas in the British and Indian armies at the same level. The Gurkha Army Ex-Servicemen's Organisation is now demanding parity with British former soldiers.

The Taj Mahal of the North Circular
Article Abstract:
Sharad Patel, the new owner of Nicholas Grimshaw's British Pavilion from the 1992 Sevill Expo, hopes to be able to revive the structure as the heart of a new leisure complex called the Asian Centre, located on the North Circular road. The structure is likely to attract considerable attention if it is re-erected in this area, which is a mixture of run-down industrial buildings and warehouse-style retail outlets. The new complex is designed to attract the 350,000 people of Indian or Pakistani origin who live in neighbouring areas.

Is sexism an Asian value?
Article Abstract:
Western companies have been encouraged recently to begin adopting Asian values, which are seen as bringing stability and fostering success. However, recent negative publicity about attitudes towards women in Asian companies has prompted some people to question whether Asian values are in fact as worthwhile as they appear. In Asian companies, women are generally paid much less than men, and are not given any chance of career progression. There are also very negative attitudes towards foreigners.
