Shell axes 3,000 jobs and warns it may quit the forecourts
Article Abstract:
Anglo-Dutch oil concern Shell is to cut its workforce of 19,000 in its refining and marketing operations by around 15%. This will particularly affect jobs at managerial level as the company simplifies its management structure. It has admitted that its chain of petrol stations in the UK is not profitable, and it may have to leave the UK altogether if its performance does not improve. It will close some outlets in its network of 13,000 European filling stations, but still aims to increase its market share to 20%.

Setback for Ecclestone as TV rights dispute drags on
Article Abstract:
The fact that leading Formula One teams McLaren, Williams and Tyrrell have still not signed the Concorde Agreement on television rights is proving a barrier to the flotation of Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One promotional business on the UK stock market. The three teams concerned are not satisfied with plans for the division of profits from television coverage of Formula One motor racing. They are now exploiting the fact that Ecclestone cannot proceed without their cooperation.
