Shy governor is contender for Kremlin
Article Abstract:
Russia currently has no strong political parties, according to Dmitry Ayatskov, governor of Saratov, Russia. He has been working in the Saratov region to construct an ideology that can bring everybody together. The region has traditionally been seen as hostile to central government in Moscow, Russia, but this is no longer the case. Indeed, Ayatskov is regarded very favourably by President Boris Yeltsin. However, he does not feel that he has the moral right to regard himself as a contender for the Russian presidency until he has proved to Russians that reforms in Saratov can be developed.
