Akio Morita
Article Abstract:
Businessman Akio Morita studied at Osaka Imperial University before spending 18 months as an officer in the navy. He began working as a teacher, but resigned to join Masaru Ibuka, an old friend who shared his interest in electronics, in a business venture. They began to make radios, and their business was incorporated as Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo Kamushiki Kaisha. This name was later changed to Sony, with Morita becoming Chmn and CEO in 1976.

Stella Mary Newton
Article Abstract:
Costume designer and dress historian Stella Mary Newton was born in London, England, in 1901. She became an assistant to George Sheringham and then an independent designer. She opened her own shop in Bloomsbury in the 1930s.
