Sober, but still sensational
Article Abstract:
Artist Tracey Emin has become well known in recent years for her very direct approach. She is often self-promoting, and uses her work to reveal details of her private life. However, her early works show her in a very different light. Some of these works are now in the hands of painter Robert McDonald, who taught Emin when she was studying BA Fine Art. They include small woodcuts and linocuts with a strong atmosphere of gloom and pessimism. McDonald believes that Emin should be regarded as a serious artist.
