Superhawks rule roost at the Bundesbank
Article Abstract:
The Bundesbank policymaking council has 16 members. Eleven members are heads of state banks and the other 5 are the bank's permanent directorate which includes the Pres Helmut Sclesinger, Deputy Hans Tietmeyer and Head of Research Otmar Issing. Each member has one vote. The Bundesbank tends to put national interest before international interests. Inflation is its primary concern. Some eastern German states want council membership to be increased. Schlesinger opposes this as he believes it would be make the council ineffective.

Party press is revamped and still read all over
Article Abstract:
East German newspapers, previously Communist, have not changed their content much although they are now western owned and may have a western editor. Readers prefer to continue with the newspapers they know when everything else is changing. Established western papers and new papers do not sell. East German journalists have the same background as their readers, enabling them to understand which stories are more relevant.

Article Abstract:
