Take the fight from the House and put it on our screens
Article Abstract:
Some observers feel that a debate between John Major and Tony Blair, in the same style as debates in the US between presidents and presidential candidates, would be a useful development. The final decision must be made by John Major, in the full awareness that if he agrees to such a debate, no future prime minister would ever be able to refuse. The general opinion is that John Major is not really in favour of a televised debate, while the Labour party would welcome it. However, strategists believe that Major would actually perform very well in such a situation.

Can he bring back Tory smiles?
Article Abstract:
The UK Labour party's spending plans do not make sense, according to chancellor Kenneth Clarke. He believes that Labour's economic policy is dangerous, and highlights the fact that the party now seems to be moving towards considering privatisation. In contrast, the Conservative party is well aware of how to fight an election on the basis of policies which will prove workable in government. He seems confident about the outcome of the forthcoming general election, and may well prove a great asset to the Conservative party.
