Ten tips for a happy, hype-free New Year
Article Abstract:
There are a number of important ways in which hypocrisy could be avoided in 1997. It would be advisable, for example, to move away from the myth that drugs are only taken by a small sub-section of young people and to acknowledge that drug use is now a mainstream activity. Article Abstract:

It appears that many of society's feelings about young children have been transferred onto her, and media coverage of her trial has in some way made her into an infant. The candlelit vigils which have been held in protest at her conviction are linked with the reaction to the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and show emotional activism which aims to have a positive outcome.

Article Abstract:
The Queen is showing growing awareness of the need for the monarchy to change in order to align itself with new social conditions in the UK. She has adopted a less formal tone in her speeches, and has make a firm commitment to listen carefully to the views of ordinary people. There seems to be a new atmosphere of intimacy, with the Queen moving away from generalization and towards personalization. Her stance indicates that there is not really a very large gap between hereditary monarchy and elected government.
