The greatest collaborator
Article Abstract:
Musician Van Dyke Parks is proud of what he achieved in the 1960s, which he regards as a decade characterized by darkness and violent urges. He feels that he was turned upside-down in the 1960s by events including the death of his brother and of Martin Luther King. He recalls that he found it extremely difficult to work with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, as he did not share Wilson's vision. He no longer listens to pop music, but is working on an opera on the death of the American comic-book with Maus cartoonist Art Speigelman.

Trouble in paradise
Article Abstract:
Los Angeles, CA, has been portrayed in many different ways by filmmakers and cinematographers. During the first 50 years of filmmaking activity in Hollywood, CA, filmmakers had very little interest in Los Angeles. Films set in Los Angeles were done so mainly simply for convenience. Mythic evocations of Los Angeles as a place of sand, sea and sunshine did not begin until the music industry relocated there in 1964. Los Angeles has now found a strong voice in films.
