How I intend to bait the local party canvassers
Article Abstract:
Former MP Michael Brown describes the changes that have taken place in his life since he left the House of Commons. He feels that he can no longer have a direct influence on political developments, but welcomes the opportunity to talk to party canvassers as an ordinary voter. The tactics he may use when visited by party canvassers are discussed, particularly in relation to representatives of the Labour party. His experiences of canvassing for the Conservative party are also presented.

Demanding job that has to bring its own reward
Article Abstract:
Most of the UK's MPs can only afford to employ one researcher and one House of Commons secretary. It will be necessary for the secretary to work long hours and to take on many different responsibilities. However, most MPs' secretaries are happy in their work, and are extremely loyal to their employer. They must be very strong and determined if they are to survive in the tough, largely male-dominated environment of the House of Commons.
