The virtual revolution at your fingertips
Article Abstract:
UK businesses are beginning to realize that offering 24-hour services from a call centre is not enough to give them competitive advantage over their rivals. For this reason, some are shifting towards second-, third- and even fourth-generation call centres. Integration with the Internet is a key feature of fourth-generation call centres. Research from Datamonitor indicates that the market for Computer Telephony Integration technology will expand at a rate of 30% a year in the period to 2000, reaching $100 million.

Car retailers go into superdrive
Article Abstract:
Car Group and Carland are both keen to create a more positive image for used car sales in the UK. The former has become the largest single retailer of used cars in the UK through its Car Supermarket chain, while the latter is planning a network of indoor car retail superstores. Car Supermarket offers used cars at lower prices than those charged by conventional dealers, and offers a price guarantee. Carland is seeking a more upmarket image, and aims to offer a clean, calm and stress-free shopping environment.

Farewell then, Arthur Daley
Article Abstract:
The Internet will have a very significant impact on car retailing in the UK, according to management consultancy KPMG. More than 3 million new cars and trucks were sourced via the Internet before a test drive in the US in 1997, and similar developments are expected in the UK soon. The Internet will bring dramatic changes to the dynamics of the relationship between customers and dealers, and dealers which do not establish a presence on the Internet will probably lose business.
