Article Abstract:

With support from school and teachers, Vicki Smith managed to combine pregnancy with A-level revision and will continue to University. Vicki continued her A-level studies through pregnancy with the backing and practical help of teachers and governors. Her son was born between examinations, in which she did well enough for a place at Leicester University. Her horizons have narrowed a little, but she is not suffering hardship. The headteacher believes that Vicki is a role model for pregnant teenagers who feel that they have to choose between abortion or a career.

Article Abstract:

Some women feel very strongly that they should cease working when they have children, as they believe that parents offer the best possible childcare. They often have to make financial sacrifices, but feel that this is worthwhile. Other women feel that nurseries and childminders can offer very high quality childcare and do not experience guilt at leaving their children to go to work. Other working mothers do feel guilty, but are aware that their children are not really suffering through being cared for outside the home.

Article Abstract:

Maidenhead Rabbi Jonathan Romain counsels mixed-faith married couples. Such couples discuss more before marriage, but many do not consider themselves very religious until later, particularly when children arrive. Half of Jewish marriages are to non-Jewish partners and 70% of Catholic marriages are to non-Catholics. Mr Romain advises giving children roots in one religion and education in the other. Weddings and other ceremonies cause problems but the quality of the relationship is the main issue.
