Tigers at bay but still dangerous
Article Abstract:
Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers, engaged in a bitter conflict with the country's army, have always been feared as an extremely powerful fighting force. However, they are now being forced to use children, including girls, as soldiers. They are not yet approaching defeat, but are certainly been seen as less invincible than they once were. Many observers now believe that the army will eventually conquer the rebel fortress town of Jaffna.

Separation by suicide
Article Abstract:
Suicide is common in Sri Lanka among both the Sinhalese and Tamil communities, often for very trivial reasons. However, this is taken to extremes among Tamil fighters, who are willing to give up their own lives for an independent Tamil state. Tamil leaders indoctrinate children, telling them that their enemies murder women and children, and this leaves fighters willing to go to any lengths to get revenge.

Tamils launch great armada as Jaffna crumbles
Article Abstract:
Tamil rebels are currently engaged in evacuating more than 120,000 Tamil people from the Jaffna peninsula in the face of approaching Sri Lankan armed forces. It is likely that the rebel stronghold of Jaffna will soon fall, by which time all its 300,000 residents will have fled. The Tamils had once hoped to make the city the capital of an independent Tamil state.
